The ORP Blyskawica is a Polish destroyer, which is preserved as a museum ship in Gdynia harbour. It is the only ship of the Polish Navy awarded Virtuti Militari medal – the highest military award. She was one of the most heavily-armed destroyers on the seas before World War II. Two days before the war, on 30 August 1939, Blyskawica along with two other destroyers were withdrawn from the Baltic Sea to Britain, where they served in the Royal Navy's Home Fleet. She took part in most important sea operations in Europe throughout the war.
