Within the Tricity are 15 universities and over 60,000 students. Upon completion of a Polish Language requirement, foreign students gain access to courses in all the fields of knowledge. The major academic institutions include:

Uniwersytet Gdanski (The University of Gdansk)

University of GdanskWith almost 33,000 students and 1,700 academic staff members the University of Gdansk is the largest institute of higher education in the Pomeranian region. Its educational offer includes almost thirty major fields of study with over 100 specialisations offered by nine faculties and the Foreign Language Teacher Training College, as well as doctoral and post-graduate studies.

On completion of a Polish-language course, foreign students can choose one of 32 fields of study offered by the University. It also offers classes in foreign languages.

Akademia Medyczna w Gdansku (Medical University of Gdansk)

Medical University of GdanskThe Medical University of Gdansk is one of the largest medical universities on the southern coast of the Baltic Sea and enjoys dynamic development. The University gives an opportunity for medical studies in English.

Students from all over the world, who are interested in studying medicine, are welcome to the English Division of the Faculty of Medicine. The medical curriculum comprises six years of studies, for high school leavers who are not college graduates. All lectures, seminars and bedside practical training are conducted in English.

Politechnika Gdanska (Gdansk University of Technology)

Gdansk University of Technology is the oldest and the largest scientific and technological academic institution in the Pomerania region.

Foreign students have to submit their applications by the beginning of the academic year in October, either to the Polish Ministry of Education and Sport, to the Gdansk University of Technology's Vice-rector for Education or directly to the Dean of the faculty they would like to study at. Foreign candidates do not have to take entrance examinations. The only exception is the Faculty of Architecture where passing an examination in drawing is required. All the faculties and departments require their students to have completed a year's Polish language course at one of the Polish schools for foreigners e.g.: the Sopot School for Foreigners, Al. Niepodleglosci 763, 81-838 Sopot.

Akademia Morska (Gdynia Maritime University)

Gdynia Maritime UniversityThe Gdynia Maritime University provides studies for 8 000 students. It prepares graduates for officer positions on board merchant marine vessels and for managerial positions at the land-based institutions and companies representing the maritime industry and seaside regions. The University's four Faculties offer degree in Navigation, Marine Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Business Administration.
